Disclaimer for use of information from Brooke Animal Welfare Indicators Repository

The content and materials relating to animal welfare indicators published on our site are provided for information only and should not be used to replace or substitute bespoke and context-specific advice from trained animal welfare professionals or examination by a qualified veterinarian in relation to any welfare or health condition affecting any animal. You must obtain professional animal welfare or veterinary advice before taking, or refraining from, any action on the basis of the information on this BAWIR site.

Use of our materials alone does not suggest capacity for you to carry out clinical assessment or diagnosis without appropriate professional training and/or recognised qualifications. The photographs and illustrations included in the materials are examples and should not be considered as the only representation of any given condition or as diagnostic tools. For the avoidance of doubt, the methods referred to in our materials must only be performed within and according to the legal framework and applicable regulations on animal welfare and veterinary practice of the country you are based and/or operating in and with prior informed consent from the animal’s owner.

The information on our site reflects our research and practise on animal welfare indicators for working equids. The purpose of using animal welfare indicators is to gain information on equine welfare status in a non-invasive manner, to guide welfare improvement activities. Human safety and animal welfare should be prioritised in any human-animal interaction; people and animals involved directly or indirectly in assessing animal welfare must not be put at risk of harm. Handling of animals must be gentle and compassionate at all times, avoiding fear or force, and in accordance with relevant national animal welfare law in the country of operation. If it is not possible to conduct the animal welfare indicators without compromising animal welfare through fear, distress, discomfort, pain, excessive restraint or risk of injury, the interaction must be discontinued. If serious animal welfare compromise or a condition requiring urgent veterinary intervention to prevent animal suffering is observed, professional veterinary support should be sought immediately via the appropriate channels in the country of operation.

Although we make reasonable efforts to update the information on our site and change the content at any time, the information on our site may not reflect the latest developments in animal welfare or veterinary science, particularly in relation to information in our archives. We therefore make no representations, warranties or guarantees, whether express or implied, that the content on our site is accurate, complete or up to date.

Our responsibility for loss or damage suffered by you

We do not exclude or limit in any way our liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

You agree not to use our site for any commercial or business purposes, and we have no liability to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption, or loss of business opportunity.

The authors of the materials on our site cannot be held responsible for any direct or indirect claim, damage, or loss which may occur as a result of a different application or interpretations of the procedures outlined in the animal welfare indicators; any use of the methods and/or information in any way is carried out at your own risk and responsibility.

We exclude all implied conditions, warranties, representations or other terms that may apply to this BAWIR site or any content on it.

We will not be liable to you for any loss or damage, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, even if foreseeable, arising under or in connection with:
